So just tonight, ive started to get pop ups on my mac. They are only appearing on google chrome. Iv'e never seen this before. They all have to do something with crappy online gaming. I have no clue how they got there or where they are coming from. Its on any site. Youtube, ebay, and even netflix. Using ‘Pop up blocker for Chrome – Poper Blocker’ Extension. The default way of blocking popup has a limitation that Chrome does not block all type of popups like floating popups, overlay popups, drop-down window popups and sticky popups. So, in that case, we use Poper Blocker extension, to block any type of popups in Google Chrome.
Turn the pop-up blocker in Google Chrome on or off with these options.
Option 1 – From Chrome Settings
- Select at the upper-right corner, then choose “Settings“.
- Select “Advanced” at the bottom.
- Select “Content settings…“.
- Select “Popups“.
- Toggle the setting left to “Blocked” to enable the popup blocker. Toggle it right to enable popups. You can also set specific websites to allow or block popups.
Option 2 – Windows Registry
- Hold the Windows Key and press “R” to bring up the “Run” box.
- Type “regedit“, then press “Enter“.
- Note: You may have to create the “Google” and “Chrome” folders.
- Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Software Policies Google Chrome - Right-click “Chrome” and select “New” > “DWORD 32-bit value“
- Give the value a name of “DefaultPopupsSetting“. Set the value data to:
- 1 = Allow all sites to show pop-ups
- 2 = Disable popups
- Restart the computer, and the setting will stick.
Option 3 – Terminal Command (MacOS)
- From the Finder, select “Go” > “Utilities“.
- Open the “Terminal” application.
- Type the following, then press “Enter“:
defaults write com.google.chrome DefaultPopupsSetting -integer <n>
Where “<n>” is 0, 1, or 2 depending on what you wish to accomplish.- 1 = Allow all sites to show pop-ups
- 2 = Disable popups
- Restart your Mac.

Ensure that you don’t have any plugins or extensions installed in Chrome that may be handling the pop-up blocking.
